Botosani - ancient post-cart  The “K.K. Ober- Gymnazium” of Chernovitz

• Under the guidance of Vasile Alecsandri, România literară (The literary Romania) – a weekly magazine of literature, history and science – comes out in Jassy. Here, in the pages of România literara, Alecu Russo's translation of Cântarea României (Song of Parise of Romania), will be published. The work had been issued in Paris, in 1850, in România viitoare (The future Romania). • 1856, November 16. Birth of Matei, the tenth child. Graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Prague; officer in the Romanian army, leaves it in favour of an administrative career. Unlike all his brothers, Matei inherits the longevity of old Eminovici, being also the only one to have descendants. Dies in 1929. • The year in which Vasile, the 11th child, is born, is not known. • 1858. Mihai's name enters in the third class of „National - Hauptschule” in Chernovitz; the first two classes had been attended as a private pupil. • Birth of the writers Alexandru Vlahută (d. 1919), Barbu Stefănescu Delavrancea (d.1918), and Duiliu Zamfirescu (d. 1922). • 1858-1859. Ion Heliade-Rădulescu publishes the study Echilibru între antiteze sau spiritul si materia (Equilibrium between antitheses or the spirit and the matter), a synthesis of his social-political and philosophical doctrine. • 1859. The double election of colonel Alexandru I. Cuza as Prince of Moldavia and Wallachia, on the 24th of January, actually consecrates the Union of the two Principalities, to be recognizedfirst by Europe's Guarantor Powers and then by the Ottoman Porte. • 1860. In July, Mihai promotes the 4th class of the primary school, as the 5th of the 82 pupils. In autumn, he is admitted at the „K.K. Ober- Gymnazium” of Chernovitz, where all his elder brothers had also studied. • Setting up, in Jassy, of the Conservatoire of Music and Declamation, of the University, of the Picture Gallery and of the School of Fine Arts. • In Brăila, birth of the opera singer Hariclea Darclée (d. 1939). • Al. I. Odobescu: Scene istorice din chronicile românesci; Mihnea Voda (Cel Rău); Doamna Chiajna (Historical scenes from the Romanian chronicles: Prince Mihnea (The Evil); Princess Chiajna), Bucuresti • In Sibiu, Andrei Saguna publishes Istoria bisericii ortodoxe Rasaritene universale (History of the Universal Eastern Orthodox Church). • 1861. In Berlin, the German Richard Kunisch publishes the collection of folklore productions entitled Bukarest Und Stambul. Skizzen aus Ungarn, Rumanien und der Turkei. Eminescu's poems Miron si frumoasa fără corp (Miron and the bodyless Beautiful) and Fata-n grădina de aur (The girl In the golden garden) are re-creations of two fairy-tales from Kunisch's volume, read by the poet during his student's years in Vienna. • Mihai attends the second gymnasium class in Chernovitz, without getting his remove, so that, in the autumn of 1862, he enters again in the second class.
